Benefit coverage during a leave of absence extended to...

July 18, 2018

The federal government recently extended parental leave up to 18 months.

In response to this change, the Employee Benefit Plans now extend coverage for up to 18 months for all approved leaves of absence.

This extension of benefits includes disability, group life, extended health care, and dental.

The change took effect on November 16, 2017 and applies to leaves of absence that started after that date.

It does not apply to any leaves of absence that started prior to November 16, 2017.
