What coverage am I eligible for as a retiree?

When you reach your retirement date, your employer notifies the employee benefits team. We assemble a package that outlines your retirement options and mail it to your home address. Depending on your years of service and age when you retire, you may be eligible to receive:

Life insurance

  • Group Life conversion privilege – you can convert up to $250,000 of your basic, optional, or dependent life insurance to an individual policy with Great-West Life.
  • Group Life continuation on early retirement – you can continue all or a portion of your existing life insurance at the same rate that you pay as an active member.
  • Retired plan member life insurance benefit of $5,000 – this benefit is payable to your beneficiaries upon your death.

Health and dental coverage

  • Plan members, can elect to join the Retiree Health and Dental Plan through GMS.
