Job Summary
The Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan (SHEPP) is seeking an experienced and engaged professional to join its Board of Trustees and help steward Saskatchewan’s largest defined benefit pension plan.
With over 68,000 members and more than $12 billion in assets, SHEPP plays a critical role in supporting the financial security of healthcare workers across the province.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute at a governance level, bringing strategic insight and sound judgement to decisions that shape the long-term sustainability and performance of the Plan.

About SHEPP
Established in 1962, SHEPP is the largest defined benefit pension plan in Saskatchewan and the only industry-wide plan serving the province’s healthcare sector.
Since 2002, the Plan has operated under a joint trusteeship model, with equal Board representation from employer and member organizations, ensuring balanced and collaborative governance.

Required Qualifications
As an Employer Trustee, you will:
• Provide governance oversight of the Plan, ensuring alignment with its strategy, values and regulatory obligations;
• Contribute to strategic decision making related to investment performance, funding and risk management;
• Fulfill fiduciary responsibilities by acting in the best interests of the Plan members and beneficiaries;
• Oversee the hiring, performance and compensation of the Chief Executive Officer;
• Ensure compliance with all statutory and reporting requirements; and
• Participate actively in Board meetings, including preparation and ongoing education.
Trustees typically participate in approximately 6-7 meetings annually (for a total of 10-11 days), along with an opportunity to participate in committee work and professional development.
This appointment is for a four-year term, with the potential for up to two additional four-year terms. Trustees are provided with remuneration and expense reimbursement in accordance with Board policy.
Experience
You bring:
• Strong judgement, integrity and a commitment to governance excellence and fiduciary responsibility;
• The ability to analyze complex financial and strategic information;
• Expertise in finance, actuarial science, pensions or a related field (preferred);
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to contribute to high-performing Board decisions;
• A commitment to ongoing learning.
How to Apply
Applicants must be based in Saskatchewan and legally permitted to serve in a governance capacity in Canada.
As per SHEPP’s Trust Agreement, individuals currently serving on a SHEPP Partner Committee are not eligible for appointment as a Trustee.
